Who are you going to choose?

The person living for today, or tomorrow?

We all have two individuals living inside of us.
The person who lives for today.
And the person who lives for tomorrow.

The one who has the upper hand in your life makes all the difference.

Back in our time, the person living for today didn’t have much to look forward to.
There was barely any distraction, addiction, and entertainment.
So, it was easy to rely on the person who lived for tomorrow.
Because tomorrow was shiny.
If we worked hard, then tomorrow we could be rich, famous, and successful.

Today, the person living for today has a wonderful life.
There is junk food that tastes so good.
Entertainment that is so addictive.
Social media that keeps us hooked.
Air conditioning to keep us cool.
Ultimate convenience through 10-minute delivery.

So, the person of today says to us:

“Hey, today isn’t so bad, is it?
Why focus on tomorrow?
Now is the moment.”

And the individual living for tomorrow has a really tough job.
Because all that they have to offer is a probability.
If you do this today, tomorrow might be better.
Who knows?

But one thing hasn’t changed, which the individual living for tomorrow teaches us:
That good things in life take time.
The most important things - love, purpose, fulfillment, peace, clarity - they take time.
They rarely happen instantly.
They rarely happen today.
They need you to work for tomorrow.

The present entertains.
The future rewards.

Book I read this week

Didn't read any book last week, since we were travelling and I didn't feel like it :)

I have shared several books in this newsletter over the years.
A list of all of them can be found here.

Build An Epic Career - now at 46% discount!

From 45% last week, the discount on Amazon has increased to 46%!
As we do not control this discount, Amazon decides it. They increase it, decrease it, and no one knows what the logic is.
I am not sure how long this discount will last, but to get a 450-rupee hardcover book for 246 only is quite crazy!

Grab it now!

Question of the week

When do you think is the right age to have your first child?

  • Between 18-22
  • Between 22-27
  • Between 27-32
  • Between 32-40
  • In your 40s
  • Don't believe in having kids

(and see the results of others, too)

Results of last week's question

Almost everyone (except those below 18) feels the right time is 27-32 years, and I agree.
Interesting to see.

My response?
I, too, would say the best time to buy a car is 27-32yrs. My first car was at 27 - a red Maruti Swift :))

3 pics from last week

Was traveling through MP all of last week - we visited Gwalior, Orchha, Bhopal and Satpura National Park. Incredible experience. What a wonderful state.
Food, History, Nature, People - all on point!

This is the Tajul Masjid - Asia's largest Mosque and the 9th largest in the world with a capacity of 175,000+ people!
The tent you see was put up because of Eid (we went the day after Eid).

If you are ever in Bhopal, please, please, please visit the Tribal Museum. It is unlike any museum I have ever been to - absolutely stunning depiction of the tribals of MP.

On our way to Satpura National Park, we stopped at the Bhimbetka Caves, which have prehistoric human cave paintings dating back 30,000 years!
My first prehistoric experience. Quite fascinating.

2 quotes I wish to share

Build a team so strong that someone from the outside doesn't know who the boss is.

Tomorrow doesn't have more time than today!

1 new thing I learnt this week

The letter ‘e’ is the most commonly used letter in the English language, as it appears in 11% of all words!

Ambitious people are not in a hurry I was speaking to a 22-year-old the other day, who recently started her first job. "How is it going?" I asked."So so, not that great.""Why, what happened? I thought you were really excited about this company, role, and even the money.""Yeah, all that is good, but I am not creating any impact, Ankur." Sorry, what? Did I hear impact? "Impact? How long have you been working?""It has been 6 full months Ankur. And yet, no impact.""Ummm - who told you that you...

Here is what young people do not have I received an email this morning. She earns well, has a stable job, is well-qualified, and has been investing for over 5 years. Her investment corpus is 25 lakhs, which is impressive. But her email mentioned a common, naive goal: "I want to reach 1 crore in the next 3-4 years." In personal finance, compounding is key. For those unaware, here’s a quick explanation: Start with 100 rupees and earn 10% annually. You might think the amount you make every year...

The shoot last week made me realise this... I was in Mumbai last week for an ad film shoot: 14 hours straight — 7 AM to 9 PM — with a team of about 200 people. We shot 5 ad films. It wasn’t my first shoot, but each time inspires me. This time, I realised something: to the experts on the team — stylists, makeup artists, photographers — I’m not Ankur Warikoo or even a person. I’m what their work demands. As soon as I reached my hotel room, the styling team was waiting for me. In the next 60...
