I am constantly overthinking and can't sleep

Life is a jigsaw puzzle

I received an email yesterday:
Had trouble sleeping.
Couldn't shut down the brain.
Tried acknowledging her emotions, and speaking to her family, yet couldn't seem to figure out what was keeping her up.

I asked her what usually occupies her mind.
Job search, loan, shaadi-related talks, where to settle conversation - move back to India or stay in the States a little longer. It’s hard to pick priorities in life because we have limited time like personal health, career; mental peace or good money.

To which I replied:
You are worried because you want everything in your control.
And you want everything to work out.
And you want every person who knows you to be happy with what you do.

But the reality is:

1/
You control only a small part of your life.
Realizing this sets you free.

2/
Everything will not work out.
And is not meant to work out.
Life is the sum of small things that work out, not one big thing that works out.

3/
People, just like you, react to the moment.
They cannot always see beyond the moment.
So it’s possible that at the moment they will be unhappy, disappointed, and angry.
But that doesn’t mean they will always remain that way.

Set yourself free.
Life is not a perfect picture that needs to be clicked in one go.
Life is a jigsaw puzzle of that same perfect image.
And you have to fit the pieces one by one.
You won’t get it right the first time.
But you will get it right eventually.

Book I am reading this week

STILL reading Accelerating India's Development: A State-Led Roadmap for Effective Governance by Karthik Muralidharan because there is so much to unpack and process. Genuinely love it. So many ideas floating in my head as I am reading the book.

My 3rd book, Make Epic Money, has sold 1,35,000+ copies in India with a 4.4+ rating. You can buy it in Hindi, English, Marathi, Audio, and Kindle here.
The book has also been converted into a video course (in Hindi and English) - that you can check out here.

Here is an alphabetical list of all books I have shared in this newsletter so far.

Question of the week

Who has had the biggest impact on your career, so far?

  • Parents
  • Siblings / Cousins
  • Friends
  • External world
  • Teachers / Managers

(and see the results of others, too)

Results of last week's question

As expected - people from the older generation have no idea what's going to hit them in 10 years because of AI and technology, in general. Jobs are going to quickly vanish, especially the ones today. The younger population still seems more practical about it :)

My response?
My job as a content creator and teacher - both will vanish and will be replaced by AI in the next 10 years. And it will do a far better job than I do today.

3 pics from last week

Met Alok Sama, the author of the amazing book (and my read of 2024) - Money Trap

Say hello to the Table Tennis Silver Medalist of our society, haha :))

One of those days when I treat myself to a fancy, delicious (and expensive) breakfast - roasted peaches and avocado with beetroot sauce.
Wahhhhh!

2 quotes I wish to share

There is always space for being gracious while being competitive.

We all have two lives.
And the second one begins when we realize we have enough money for one.

1 new thing I learnt this week

The air in Delhi (and most of North India) has been terrible lately. The main culprit is PM2.5 particles - matter smaller than 2.5 micrometres, which are small enough to penetrate deep into our lungs and even enter the bloodstream.
This is why there is a universal number that is considered safe when it comes to PM2.5 in the air.
Delhi's current number is currently 39 times that healthy number.
39 times!

Stop lying to yourself I received an email this morning. 8 years of work experience. Has 2 job offers.Confused which one to choose. In his words, both offers are the same.Same CTC.Same brand value.Same stability.Same location. Here is what I replied:If both are the same, then you would have just tossed a coin, no? Clearly, both are not the same. #1 Stop lying to yourself. It is the biggest reason why we make terrible decisions. We are dishonest with our own selves. #2 Answer honestly, which...

Stay away from these 3 kinds of people 1/ Those who make fun of your insecurities and when you are hurt, they tell you that you are too sensitive. 2/ Those who do not contribute to the relationship, but expect you to be invested and engaged in the relationship. 3/ Those who dismiss your success as luck or destiny and never acknowledge your hard work or capability. We may not always get to choose our relationships. But the worst tragedy is to choose the wrong ones, despite knowing they are...

The victim mindset Received an email from a 21-year-old.Well-to-do family. But parents didn't allow her to venture out much. She agreed. She only studied. Took science when she didn't want to. Worked hard. Got through a Canadian university. Went for Comp Sc but changed majors to Business without informing her parents. Now - she is scared of what will happen to her life. Her email ended with, "I'll be fine because I always do. But the thing is, who do I blame?" We exchanged a few emails, and I...
